Practice Assessors
INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PRACTICE ASSESSOR? Practice Assessors play a vital role in the Child Care Award. They work with candidates both in supporting and assessing them. Throughout the time they are undertaking the award. KEY FUNCTIONS: To agree an assessment plan with the candidate To observe the candidate’s performance on a minimum of two occasions To examine case files in respect of observed work To provide formative feedback on the candidate’s Reflective journal To verify the direct evidence contained in the candidate’s portfolio To report on the candidate’s practice in relation to each of the 5 practice requirements and the value requirements of the Child Care programme To support the candidate through the Award CRITERIA FOR PRACTICE ASSESSORS Practice Assessors will normally be working within partner agencies in the Advance Child Care Partnership or purchasing agencies or are independent social workers with child care experience. They must meet the following requirements: Have a degree level qualification or show evidence of ability to assess candidates at graduate level; Have a minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience in child care and should normally be a practising child care social worker; Be aware of current policy issues and research; Show evidence of commitment to their own continuing professional development; Have experience of facilitating the professional development of staff and/or students; Provide evidence of ability to assess competence against specified knowledge, values and practice requirements through direct observation and discussion and evidence that assessment in reports; Successfully complete induction training as required and be committed to attend further training; Agree to regular evaluation and formal review before re-approval; Provide evidence of competence in promoting inclusive practice, including practice to counter discrimination, racism, poverty, disadvantage and injustice.
