What part does the mentor play in PQ?

Mentors are an integral part of the award system assisting candidates in meeting their learning needs and preparing for submissions. A candidate will need a mentor to assist him/her in, recognising learning and its application, planning for and gathering a portfolio together.

Mentors are required to make a primary assessment of a candidate’s submission before it comes to Advance for assessment.

The mentor will vouch for the confidentiality, sufficiency, range and authenticity of the portfolio evidence. Full details of the mentor role are given in the Mentor Handbook, which is issued on registration with Advance. Training and support is provided.

The concept of group mentoring has recently been introduced, particularly with candidates working towards PQ1. Generally one mentor will work with a group of up to five candidates.
